Insulated Roof Drains

In response to changes in Building Code clause H1 Energy Efficiency, Aquaknight announce the release of an Insulated Drain technology.

The situation

New minimum insulation standards (H1) came into force in New Zealand, effectively doubling the insulation (r value) requirement of the roof.

The problem

Aquaknight Roof Drains are used in conjunction with Warm Roof solutions that incorporate Waterproof Membranes and a rigid sheet insulation board.
The space around the Drain in a box gutter for example, has until now either been ignored or filled with ‘off-cuts’ of insulation, in an ad-hoc manor.
This can lead to a sub-standard installation of the Roof Drain and reduced r values in this localised area through thermal bridging.

The solution

Aquaknight now supply its Drain Body as a convenient over-moulded block of closed-cell foam that matches and exceeds the properties of the insulating roofing material.
This insulated solution is available across our entire Storm-water range.

The Convenience

The insulated Drains are supplied in a standard 300×300 square, and to match the warm-roof specification supplied by the Membrane supplier.
This matches New Zealand’s minimum box-gutter width meaning the drain can be simply dropped into place and secured with a suitable adhesive and/or fixing screws.
If an offset is required, the foam can be easily trimmed on-site.

The specialised closed-cell foam used has the following properties:
